We request the pleasure of your company from the evening of Thursday the 26th of March right through until the evening of Sunday the 29th of March 2026 in Sumner, Christchurch, New Zealand for what we plan to be the best weekend of the year.

In 2026, unseeded surfers will likely compete in trial heats, which may follow an alternative format to our standard four-person knockout heats. Exact details will be confirmed closer to the event. By accepting this invitation, you agree to participate in whichever format is outlined. If you need more information before confirming your entry, please feel free to reach out.

Surfboard Requirements & Judging:
The Single Fin Mingle is a traditional longboard competition, and judging reflects this. While we’ve adopted the updated WSL longboard criteria in recent years, our festival origins place a strong emphasis on entertainment and style. The surfboard used in the competition must meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum 9 ft in length

  • Minimum 8 kg in weight

  • Provision for a single fin only

Boards will be inspected and weighed prior to your heat by our surfboard inspector, Brownie. If your board doesn’t meet the criteria, you’ll be asked to ride another one.

Please note that your participation in The Single Fin Mingle is only confirmed once your entry purchase is complete.

For friends and partners attending but not competing, they can purchase an SFM Weekend Pass when available, granting access to all ticketed events listed above.

Important:

  • The SFM Street Party and Afterparty are strictly R18, including minors accompanied by a parent or guardian.

  • All other events are restricted to 18+, but U18s may attend if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
